Description
Summary:Peasants cultivating sugar cane in the valley of Izúcar, Puebla (México) have gone through different stages in their relations with Atecingo’s ingenio and the Mexican government, from subordination and conflict to negotiation, trying to obtain their production’s autonomy. From sugar market’s deregulation, they have to cope with new challenges. In this paper, we present an analysis of the peasants’ replies in regard to economic liberalisation, taking into consideration their possibilities of reproduction or social exclusion as productive agents.
