Description
Summary:Occupations predominantly held by women are on average paid less than those held by men. This article explores the role of an occupational classification, the RÉFérentiel des Emplois-types de la Recherche et de l'ENseignement Supérieur (RéFérens III), in reproducing inequalities of value between gendered activities. RéFérens III recognizes fewer and less precise skills in the most feminized sectors of work. Employers’ use of the classification disseminates these inequalities, as evidenced by two job offers sets published by the CNRS. These findings shed light on theory, methodology (measurement of job valuation) and epistemology (circulation between science and policy).
