Summary:At the beginning of the 20th century, rejuvenation became fashionable. The background to this was the discovery of hormones and the observation of a connection between sex hormones and vitality. Animals had a central role in endocrinology research. The article focuses on the laboratory animals that were involved in the research, a milestone in the rise of biotechnology. In particular it focuses on two actors of rejuvenation research, physiologist Eugen Steinach and experimental biologist Paul Kammerer.
