Description
Summary:The figure of the scientist marks a significant presence in all forms of artistic expression and imposes itself as one of the most paradigmatic forms of representation of the History of ideas and mentalities of the nineteenth century. The scientist of the nineteenth century is a typical product of his time, he illustrates the perfect synthesis of the values and virtues that shape the bourgeois worldview. Starting from this modeling conception and from the principle that literary fiction as a mode of intelligibility of human societies can constitute a platform of great epistemological relevance, this paper, taking as an angle of approach the work of Jules Verne (1828-1905), this great box of resonance of the anticipations and the glorious conquests but also of the dangers and contradictions underlying the scientific progress of the second half of the nineteenth century, it is proposed to reflect on the different types that make up the polyhedral figure of the man of science of the nineteenth century.
