| Summary: | This contribution highlights the relationship between the prisoners of various Brussels prisons at the end of the 18th century and the public prosecutor of Brabant – responsible for the supervision of these institutions. The aim here is to get a glimpse, through the testimonies of the inmates, of the experience of the prison and its impact on the tasks and intentions of this officer of justice. He intervenes, as a representative of the central power, in all aspects of the administration of the prison. His duties lead him, in various circumstances, to discuss with the prisoners their conditions of detention and their legal situation. Thus, outside of prison, the experiences of the prison are listened to and mobilised by the judicial structure. |
