Summary: | In the light of the Roussillonese notarial and normative sources, the border established by the Treaty of Corbeil in 1258 between the Fenouillèdes, in the Kingdom of France, and the Roussillon and the Conflent, territories of the Crown of Aragon, appears as a space as well invested by the border dwellers as by the central powers. This investment results in cross-border socio-economical (such as trading and pastoralism), normative, legal, military and defensive practices by which the border dwellers appropriated their territory. As many practices which marked the mentalities and the landscape in the long term. In this study the border is considered as a living and lasting territorial entity.
