description Against constructivism, which tends to deny all links between journalistic information and a preexisting reality, an ontological analysis is proposed in the wake of John R. Searle’s theory of the social construction of reality. Considering the intentional character of news and resting on the hierarchical taxonomy advanced by Searle, firstly, the principal journalistic facts are identified, that is, the state of the things which journalistic information treats, or supposedly treats. Secondly, eight types of raw journalistic facts are identified, that is to say, the independent reality of journalism on the basis of which the news is constructed, most often by repetition.
