| description | AE81 M and AE81M − Ca ignition-proof magnesium alloys were used to produce 16-inch wheels through an LPDC process. Defects in the castings were inspected and analysed, revealing entrained oxide films composed of fluorides and oxides. The melt oxidation during the filling process was investigated, and the reproducibility of the mechanical properties of the cast wheels was evaluated using Weibull modulus. The results indicate that in an air atmosphere, adding Ca to the AE81 M alloy enhances oxidation resistance, reducing severe burning and minimizing oxide defect formation. However, in the presence of SF6-containing cover gas, Ca addition can result in a thicker oxide film. Therefore, the effect of Ca addition on the reproducibility of mechanical properties in Mg-alloy LPDC products highly depends on the specific casting conditions and gas environment. |
