| description | This article presents the results of a study on the temporal and spatial dynamics of yerba mate harvesting production in Brazil from 2008 to 2018, through the analysis of data on Municipal Crop Harvesting, Forestry and Agricultural Production. Yerba mate has historical, economic and cultural importance in Southern Brazil. Yerba mate is a typical tree in part of the region. It was used by native Indians, especially the Guarani tribe, in South America even before the Hispanic era as raw material to make chimarrão and tereré infusions. The temporal and spatial dynamics of production arise from the various forms and techniques of production in the use of territory, transforming it into spaces according to national and global demands. In Brazil, the territorial dynamics of yerba mate production occur in the country’s three southern region states and in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, due to an association between areas of natural occurrence of yerba mate growth, regionalization of chimarrão and tereré infusion consumption and demand territorialization, resulting from its use as raw material in several productive systems, in particular cosmetics and beverages. |
