Description
Summary:In April 2011, Côte d’Ivoire closed the cycle of a political-military conflict that had been opened since September 19, 2002. The new post-conflict authorities, in their commitment to reposition the country in the concert of nations and to improve the living conditions and existence of populations, implement public policies with the aim of reforming the national economy. In 2020, thanks to the several reforms carried out in all sectors, Côte d’Ivoire achieved economic improvement. It recorded one of the strongest growth rates in the world, with an average annual rate of 8.2% among countries with a GDP per capita of USD 1,000 or more. This article aims to highlight the mechanisms that enabled Côte d’Ivoire to achieve such performance. The interest in the question lies in the capacity for resilience of a country which has emerged from nine years of political-military conflict and which has managed to achieve notable economic recovery. This is a textbook case that deserves to be studied. The comparison and cross-checking of documents and economic reports from the study period followed by data from oral surveys made it possible to arrive at a certain number of results. The conclusions of the study allow us to affirm that maintaining a climate of peace and security is an important condition for reforms to flourish and give economic and social vitality to a country.
