description | For the porfirian regime, the first celebration of Mexican independence became a wonderful occasion to stage his interpretation of this mayor event in Mexican history. With this aim, a specific commission was appointed to be in charge of coordinating the whole of the scheduled events. In the same line, a well-known historian, Genaro García, was in charge of writing an «official chronicle» of the celebration. It’s the study of these exceptional materials, very rich, of very high quality and including numerous illustrations, which constitute the nucleus of the ideas put forward in this article. It enables to understand how the Porfiriat used 1810, one of the strongest symbols in Mexican history, to stage itself in order to transmit to the country his own vision of the nation. |
