description For a certain reservoir dam that is a geomembrane face rockfill dam,the composite geomembrane is used as the face slab on the dam surface to prevent seepage.A three-dimensional nonlinear finite-element model of this reservoir dam was built to simulate the dam filling construction,the laying of the composite geomembrane,and the process of reservoir impoundment.The stress and deformation of the dam body and the composite geomembrane during the completion and impoundment periods were analyzed,and the rationality of the structural design of this geomembrane face rockfill dam was demonstrated.The calculation results show that the distribution of the dam body displacement and stress before and after impoundment follows the general rules and that impoundment is beneficial to the safety of the dam.Moreover,the shear failure of the dam body is prevented.The composite geomembrane is subject to tensile strain and stress in the lower half of the face slab due to boundary constraints.Nevertheless,the lateral and longitudinal safety factors calculated meet the requirements of design specifications,and the safety of the geomembrane is guaranteed.
