description Perpetuating the plausibility of the existence of an imaginary writer requires intelligence and cunning on the part of the real author. Jean-Benoît Puech, the creator of Benjamin Jordane, his writings, and many academic commentaries on his oeuvre, possesses both of these qualities. However, inquisitive readers today have the means to uncover the truth previously blurred within the world of books. Hence the game of inventing a writer is no longer a game of deceit, but a game played in collaboration with readers. When interwined with the language of reality and autobiography the rules of this game promote a balance which sometimes encourages disbelief and sometimes reveals the nature of the true and intimate world of the writer.
