Summary:Polish and Lithuanian local governments have similar historical conditions. However, presently, after dynamic political changes, the local government model in both countries is different. The aim of the article is to indicate the fundamental differences and similarities in both models, with particular emphasis on conducting forms of public consultations and the use of participatory budgeting. The comparative analysis is based on the example of the Polish municipality of Wyszków and the Lithuanian region of Šalčininkai. The analysis carried out allowed for the identification of social consultation instruments used by the Polish municipal government, which could be used by the local government of the Lithuanian region.
