Over the last decade of the 20th century, there was a high increase in the capital participation of multinational retail chains in the domestic market, with mergers and acquisitions of companies with national and regional operations. The French group Carrefour stands out as the current leader in the sector and pioneer in the national territory since 1975. This paper aims to analyze the supermarket concentration ratio in Brazil based on the strengthening of the Carrefour group. We intend to highlight the implications for the geography of the commercial capital in food retail by highlighting the strategies to acquire new companies, the territorial topology, investments in banking capital, and summarizing the main socioeconomic impacts for the agri-food network.
