description This article considers the problem of determining the hydrodynamic forces acting on the body in an unsteady flow on a distant control surface. General formulas for calculating hydrodynamic forces in the three- and two-dimensional cases were derived. The structure of these formulas was analyzed, and, based on several problems, the values of their main terms were obtained. Using the approach presented here, a study of the hydrodynamic influence on the cylindrical body of arbitrary cross-sectional shape in an oscillatory flow was carried out. Its results were used to identify universal dependences of the hydrodynamic forces on oscillation parameters.
