| Summary: | In this paper we present a detailed reading of the poetic exercice submitted by the Mexican writer Fernando del Paso in his novel Noticias del Imperio (1987). This exercice is set in chapter XVI.1 called “Adiós Mamá Carlota” and based upon the account of the gardener Sedano, a peripheral character. We shall only study the functions and scopes of the gardener’s discourse whose allegation, according to us, implicitly reveals two sorts of readings which we have categorized as: performative and historical. |
