| Summary: | The subject matter of this article is a chronologizational analysis of selected words and collocations extracted from one volume of the Novoye v russkoy leksike series (Novoye v russkoy leksike. Slovarnyye materialy 1990) which was conducted on texts collected by Google Books. The study’s aim is to assess the usefulness of Google Books in chronologization of the Russian vocabulary. As a result of the analysis, the dates of the earliest uses of language units were shifted for over 30% of the considered words and collocations. The author describes both the advantages and limitations of Google Books in terms of utilizing it for research purposes. The paper closes with a discussion on ways to improve the existing text resources so that they could be used in research on the chronologization of Russian lexis. |
