Description
Summary:This paper approaches the popularization of high culture through visual mechanisms as portrayed in Javier Pérez Andújar’s Los príncipes valientes (2007). More specifically, it thoroughly analyses the coexistence of oral popular tradition and new popular culture during the late periods of Franco regime, disseminated by media and closely corresponding to the (Amorós) « subculture » –television, comics, cinema, music, etc.– where there is also place for the dissemination of high culture. To illustrate the subtle ways in which the Classics were approached, Javier Pérez Andújar’s first novel, between biographic essay and autofiction novel, revolves around two main ideas: common experiences of Spanish children of the seventies and the author’s discovery of his literary calling.
