description Commercial vehicle plays an important role in economic development. It is important to investigate its safety design. In this paper,High strength steel was applied to the frontal impact safety design of a commercial cabin with the requirement of ensuring the survival space and not increasing body weight as well as material cost. Firstly the global sensitivity analysis was carried out to choose the prominent parts,then their material were changed into HSS,the optimization was conducted by employing NAGA- Ⅱ algorithm with their thickness chosen as design variables. The result shows that the cabin keeps its dynamic and static mechanical properties and its frontal impact safety is improved with the application of HSS,at the same time the body weight and material cost are both decreased.
