description | The results of the 2010 Demographic Census show that, among the three most populous Brazilian regions (representing more than 80% of the Brazilian population), the Northeast was the region registering the highest rate of population growth between 2000 and 2010. Its population size and growth continue very important to Brazilian demographic dynamics and the future population trends. Among the observed changes, the drop in the fertility rates seems to be an important element, since it already has records around the level of replacement. The objective of this study is to map the recent levels of fertility in the Brazilian Northeast region, identifying clusters where high levels of fertility persist, as well as indicating areas where reproduction levels are already low. The maps were made using spatial analysis software. The basic data came from the Brazilian Demographic Census of 2000 and 2010. The results indicate that the Northeast can no longer be considered as an area of high fertility rates, but a region very similar to others Brazilian regions, where the fertility rates are about or below replacement levels. |
