| Summary: | Role of B vitamin supplementation in reducing the elevated homocysteine level in preventing ischemic stroke risk is conflicting. This systematic review was conducted to evaluate the impact of vitamin B12 and folic acid supplementation
in adults with stroke. Literature search included Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT). The outcome of the study was assessing the homocysteine-lowering effect with supplementation of B vitamins to prevent the risk of ischemic stroke.
Of 321 citations, 10 eligible RCTs were identified. The findings were inadequate to determine whether vitamin B12 or folic acid supplementation, alone or in combination, help in preventing the risk of ischemic stroke among people with
history of stroke. |
