Description
Summary:This article explores the transformation of sexual norms in two institutions for pregnant teenagers in Le Plessis-Robinson. Prior to 1971, sexuality was regulated through disciplinary practices, without being explicitly mentioned in official archives. During the December 1971 strike at the Collège d’enseignement technique for pregnant girls, the demands of the teenagers and of their supporters (particularly the French Women’s Liberation Movement) made this repressive system of control visible and prompted those in charge of the hôtel maternel, which opened its doors in 1972, to rethink their caring practices. More precise psychological and social monitoring was introduced, and the girls were reintegrated into mainstream schools. These transformations were accompanied by explicit discourses on sexuality which suggest a shift from a logic of repression to one of responsibility which illustrates the complex reconfiguration of sexual norms in the 1960s-1970s.
