description The issue of energy security has become increasingly prominent in discussions about NATO’s effectiveness in various regions. Over the past 25 years, there has been a growing focus on understanding the direction of NATO’s energy security efforts and policies. This study aims to explore how and why NATO’s approach to energy security has evolved and its current status as an international energy actor. The analysis follows the chronological and descriptive examination of NATO’s high-level decision-making processes, declarations, institutional structures, and critical activities related to energy security. The findings suggest that NATO has transformed into a collective learning organization in the energy sphere, providing research and development support to its member states and guiding their adaptation to the dynamics of the energy transition. However, the organization still needs a specific goal to impact energy relations in the international system significantly.
