description Gouiran devoted to the famous anonymous “alba” En un vergier sotz fuella d’albespi a precise and convincing comment. Our remarks will mostly draw some consequences from this comment as far as the operating and scope of the text are concerned. In verse V, 1, the poem leads to the inversion of its interpretation and requires a retrospective reading inscribing the I-IV stanzas in a dream world: no lover has spent the night with the dreamer. Having first given all the guarantees of its generic inclusion, the text retroactively rejects the basic situation of the “alba” genre: the separation of lovers at dawn. Inversion provides the unifying principle that organizes the poem: inversion of reading, inversion of reference, inversion of the generic convention and, of course, inversion of the sex of the principal actant (a woman). En un vergier then appears as a text of a high (meta)literarity: a game with the listener/reader on codes and meaning.
