| Summary: | We describe two cases of possible healthcare-associated mucormycosis in liver transplant recipients. Mucorales may be acquired from environmental sources such as contaminated medical equipment, grafts or procedure related. Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is the second most common presentation in healthcare-associated infections.The high mortality rate of mucormycosis is due to low suspicion, insensitive diagnostic tests and rapid angioinvasion. Early antifungal treatment and surgical debridement are imperative to improve survival. |
