Description
Summary:Since 1992, the French Canadian public broadcaster network (Société Radio-Canada) obtained an Office of the Ombudsman which has the mandate to inquire into the complaints of the public concerning the journalistic practices. This role is sometimes criticized by those which see a function of public relations there rather than a critic of the journalistic practices. A compared analysis of the decisions of the Ombudsman of the SRC, the Québec Press Council (Conseil de presse du Québec) and judgements of the higher Court of Quebec suggest that the ombudsman generally supports its employer when these authorities consider the same journalistic practices, although it can nevertheless be critical in certain cases.
