Description
Summary:This data article introduces GraphEidos, a new open-access dataset that documents how visuals have been used and discussed in digital humanities (DH) journal publications. The dataset covers various forms of visual representations, their captions, and in-text descriptions extracted from publications in four major digital humanities journals, including Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, Literary and Linguistic Computing, Digital Humanities Quarterly, and Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage. In this data paper, we describe the scope and key characteristics of the dataset and detail the process through which it was constructed and curated. This dataset can be used by researchers interested in visual communication and rhetoric, visualization, and digital humanities to explore how visual languages and materials facilitate humanities research in scholarly communication processes. The data is shared openly in Zenodo (Ma & Li, 2025) under the DOI https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15207202.
