Description
Summary:Abstract: This study explores the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in English language learning, focusing on AI’s potential to personalize instruction, provide immediate feedback, and create interactive, gamified learning experiences. By examining various AI-driven platforms such as Duolingo, Grammarly, and ChatGPT, this paper assesses AI’s impact on learner engagement, proficiency, and motivation. Drawing on key theoretical frameworks, including behaviorism, constructivism, and interactionist theories, this study investigates how AI applications align with language acquisition principles. Through a synthesis of case studies and empirical literature, we identify significant benefits of AI in fostering tailored learning paths, enhancing retention, and delivering continuous assessment. However, challenges persist, including ethical concerns related to data privacy, the potential for over-reliance on technology, and the limitations of AI in replicating human interaction and cultural context. A blended approach is recommended which integrates AI tools with traditional teaching methods to maximize educational outcomes. Suggestions for future research include advancing AI’s cultural sensitivity, conducting longitudinal studies on AI’s long-term effects on proficiency, and establishing ethical guidelines to safeguard learner data and promote equity in access to AI-enhanced language education.
