The main objective of the research is to analyse the geographical distribution of tourist
attractions and services in the historic city in order to understand the tourist system spatially
and functionally. Two medium size port cities have been selected as study cases: Plymouth
(UK) and Malaga (Spain). The methodology consisted firstly of field work to identify the
location of different elements of both tourist systems, secondly elements were classified into
groups, thirdly information was uploaded using an open-source tool called Meipi, which
allowed to disseminate information and to make comments in real time. Finally, information
was presented in maps, divided into mobility, built heritage, sightseeing, leisure attractions,
water-related activities and events, arts and culture, historic references, accomodation, eating
and drinking, shopping, and tourist information and services. Conclusions show which areas
are consolidated or in progress in terms of tourist use and which of them could be adapted to
tourist activities.
