| Summary: | During the research, in order to reveal thehistorical development of department of religious education, archives of AnkaraUniversity Divinity Faculty were examined. First-hand information was derivedfrom decision books of Administrative, Professors and Faculty Board. Whenexploring the characteristic features, scientific orientations andcontributions of Department of Religious Education, the scientific workscarried out by department’s academicians and their graduate and postgraduatestudents were referred to. In this article, thetheoretical and practical contributions concerning the rise and development ofreligious education science, its basic characteristics, orientations and fieldsas an academic discipline in Turkey are discussed. Religious education made itsfirst step into academic disciplines at the Ankara University Divinity Faculty.And first academicians in the field of religious education were taught at thisfaculty. Department of Religious Education, which was established after a longtime, took the lead in educating religious education academicians in newlyestablished divinity faculties. Moreover; the end of this article, informationis given in relation to the general institutional appearance of religiouseducation in nowdays Turkey. |
