Description
Summary:This article presents the general framework of Romani-Gypsy presence in France at the beginning of the 20th century. Based on a synthesis of printed sources and regional or general descriptions, this study proposes to define the modalities of an ancient and yet unknown territorial implantation. Starting from a critique of the diasporic model applied to these populations, the analysis proposes to combine the historiography of migrations and that of itinerant mobility to rethink a presence inscribed at the crossroads of various geographical frames. The ladder game, both regional and cross-border, thus seems to define a specific morphology, based on local rooted communities and on the exercise of a current or intermittent circulation.
