Description
Summary:The effects of free phosphine on growth and metabolism of sulfate-reducing bacteria were investigated using batch experiment. The results show that when COD/SO42- ratio was 1.0, high phosphine level had an adverse effect on sulfate reduction. The half life of sulfate reduction by acetate in the culture with phosphine and in the control without phosphine was 5.6 d and 4.7 d, respectively, but that of sulfate reduction by glucose was 4.7 d and 2.9 d, respectively. The inhibition of phosphine to sulfate reduction by glucose was more serious than that by acetate. The half inhibitory concentration of phosphine to sulfate reduction was 583.8 mL·m-3 with glucose as substrate. The phosphine had also an inhibitory effect on the growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria at concentrations higher than 500 mL·m-3. The inhibition was enhanced when phosphine concentration was increased and incubation time lengthened.
