Summary:The main goal of this article is to present several pieces of the “puzzle” concerning Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) lexicon – polissemy, linguistic specialization of forms and the sign’s history throughout time –, thus demonstrating how these pieces fit into the linguistic mechanism of human creativity and the dynamic evolution of languages, two privileged factors in cultural expression.
