| Summary: | The 2007 subprime mortgage crisis in the United began with a real estate crisis sparked by widespread defaulting on subprime mortgage loans. The author studies a key event from the initial stages of the crisis that took place in a “normal” economic context: BNP’s woes with subprime loans and how they were covered in the press. The aim is to understand, through the problem of truth telling, the willingness to ignore certain warning signs and their real impact on the future of the system, a willingness that helped trigger a global financial crisis. |
