Various quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods ıvhich are developed by western countries may provide opportunities to evaluate library collections in Turkey.Therefore, one ofthe methods ıvhich is “analysis ofuse” (Qualitative evaluation) is used in this particular study. This study inquires the use ofbook collections and the level ofusage in folloıuing subjects,
Business studies; Linguistics; General biology.
At Hacettepe University Beytepe Library, Middle East Technical University Library and Gazi University Library.
The required data collected by analysis of circulation records (total 2 120 book records), observation of shelves, distributing questionnaries (involves 64 academic members ) and interviewing directories of each library.
The survey reveal that the level ofusage is very low in these subjects. In addition to this, university libraries don’t have collection development policies and don’t under- take collection evaluation studies.
This paper also involves possible solutions for the problems of collection development in Turkey. |
