| Summary: | Relevance. Surgery for epiretinal fibrosis is currently a routine procedure in vitreoretinal surgery. However, in some cases, the functional results of the surgery are unsatisfactory. With the widespread introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT) into clinical practice, many prognostic criteria for the functional outcomes of surgery for this pathology have been proposed, the description of which is the purpose of this review. Purpose. To describe prognostic criteria of idiopathic epiretinal fibrosis surgery functional outcomes based on optical coherence tomography data. Material and methods. To perform this review, clinical studies were searched through the eLibrary, PubMed, and Scopus database, using the keywords «epiretinal fibrosis», «prognostic criteria», «optical coherence tomography» (in the eLibrary database), «prognostic criteria», «epiretinal membrane» and «optical coherence tomography» (in the PubMed and Scopus databases). A total of 39 articles relevant to the topic of the review were selected. Results. A large number of OCT criteria have been proposed to predict functional outcomes of epiretinal membrane surgery, some of which remain understudied. Conclusion. Сone outer segment tips and ellipsoid zone appear to be the most informative and easy-to-use prognostic criteria. Further studies are needed to determine the best set of prognostic parameters. |
