description The francophone term has already been used for more than a century, but its meaning has changed significantly since its first use and many people contest some of its aspects. The idea “francophone literature” put forward by a group of writers is part of this contestation. Postcolonial studies, still in their infancy in France, offer a new, particularly constructive point of view. We would like, on the one hand, to redefine theses concepts, stating the precise limits and evolutions, to highlight the points of agreement and disagreement. On the other hand, it would appear that these all-important questions and consequences can provide new ideas about how to better study regional literature.
