Description
Summary:The article deals with Anne Weber’s book Annette, ein Heldinnenepos (2020). It examines the way in which it presents a very French ‘heroine’ to a German audience, placing her not only in her geographical, social and historical context, but also in her linguistic context, by inserting particularly representative and expressive French terms into the German text. It also shows how, by resorting to a form such as the epic, which presupposes a particular form of communication between the author and his audience, Anne Weber creates a situation that allows her to play with the two versions of the text, the German version and the French version, which is more a rewriting than a translation in the strict sense. The reflection on heroism and commitment that runs through the book gives it a universal dimension.
