| description | This article examines the correlation between literature and disaster, with a particular focus on Mohammed Khaïr-eddine's novel Agadir (1967). The Moroccan author's unique perspective on the relationship is exemplified through his use of a narrative and stylistic technique modeled on drama to recount the events of the Agadir earthquake. This technique, which we term the "earthquake of the text," subverts the natural order of things and transforms the story into the place of all annihilations : cultural, identity, linguistic, and psychological. Furthermore, Agadir can also be interpreted as a political fable, constructed from the narrative of the seismic event. |
