Summary: | The emblematic character of the forestry of the Ancien Régime, Louis de Froidour is known for his vast enterprise of reformation of the great mastery of the waters and forests of Toulouse, about which he wrote technical treaties that made him the most famous forester of the era and a central player in the forest life of southern France. He was then at the climax of his forest science. To grasp the various facets of his logic of development, it is thus necessary to go back to the formation of the young man of Picardie, who made his debut with Colbert. Obviously well trained in law, Froidour empirically learned the concrete realities of the business, the various silvicultural practices, and the difficult art of compromise and intimidation with people using and trading lumber. |
