Summary:The existent automatic generation method for 3 D contact finite element analyzing mesh of helical tooth proves to be unsuitable for large width helical gears,and has the limitation of the analyzing model being established only at pitch point.In this paper,concerning at large width helical gears,a mixed coordinate is adopted to built up the automatic finite element mesh generation algorithm for tooth meshing at various positions,and a modular,structural,parametric pre processing program is developed.Only inputting basic parameters of gears,all data for 3 D contact finite element analyzing of helical tooth canbe obtained.The program presented can be used conveniently,and is suitable for application in engineering design.
