Summary:The aim of the study is to determine the problems experienced by theSocial Studies teachers teaching in classes with Syrian students not living inthe temporary refuge centre and the solution recommendations to these problems.The research is based on case study being one of the qualitative patterns. 26Social Studies teachers in total were interviewed face to face. The data wereanalysed with the content analysis method. Five themes regarding the problemsand five themes regarding the solutions of these problems were developed at theend of the study. The mostly emphasized findings in the themes concerning theproblems that the Social Studies teachers experienced were problems such as notknowing Turkish, indifference to the class and failure, not being able tofamiliarize with the topics of the course, wavering between Arabic culture andTurkish culture and not being able to feel that they belong in the place theylive/ non-assimilation. As for the problems that the Social Studies teachersexperience, the solution recommendations were; providing adaptation training,bringing in the feeling of embracing where one lives, civic education, peersupport, enriching the educational process, giving social support to families,showing empathy towards students and everyone to be patient within thisprocess. There were also suggestions for new researches based on the results ofthis study.
