| Summary: | The article explores practices of customary actors to limit rural land’s sales in Burkina Faso. The repertoire of actions used illustrates forms of passive resistance to commodification, ranging from awareness raising of the population to refusal to approve sales, motivated by the respect for the customary principle of prohibition of land sales, to the negotiation with the Administration. The article aims to contribute to debates on the role of customary actors as State’s auxiliaries in peace-building policies and literature, by outlining a complex and nuanced posture towards the State, between daily collaboration and passive resistance, and between the affirmation of a historical legitimacy and need for recognition. |
