| description | In Brazzaville, the phenomena of food insecurity, poverty and protection of the environment are acute. To cope with this situation people are turning to horticulture. This study aims to show the contribution of horticulture in the fight against food insecurity, poverty and the protection of the environment in Brazzaville. It relied on desk research, collection of field data in households, questionnaire-based surveys of 305 households, interviews, and direct observations. This study shows that horticulture is a predominantly female activity. It is a strategy for the population to fight against food insecurity, poverty and the protection of the environment in Brazzaville. Horticulture is practiced using tools and rudimentary techniques. It offers important benefits to many city dwellers in the city of Brazzaville. These include access to food, income, satisfaction of various social problems and conservation of green spaces in the city. |
