Summary:Being inscribed in a momentum of international pop music festivals, the French pop music festivals were launched in 1970 : Le Bourget, Valbonne, Biot and Aix-en-Provence. Authorities fear violence such as Altamont festival (1969) and also politic contestation organized by Maoists. Two festivals are banned (Valbonne and Aix). Using official archives, interviews and mediatic sources, this article study festival’s part to reveal the generation gap between youth culture and adults. That’s why we will study representations of youth and rock through the view of authorities and media. We will also study protest movements at the festival and their impact on the society.
